consolation

... after several weeks of somewhat frustrating glitches and snafus in contexts meant to be respectful, transparent, functional and helpful, I am left with a lingering wonderment about how someone ( i.e., me) can move from place to place, meeting to meeting, this thing to this next thing for much of the work day and cover so little ground.....

thankfully, i find solace in  J.R.R.Tolkien: Not all those who wander are lost.

  2. The daily excursion into the workplace is often a dark comedy littered with unintentional self-parody and abject stupidity. Being adrift in such an absurd situation is what makes it all worthwile sometimes :)

  3. I keep meaning to ask: is the "nomad" under your avatar a place or a state of mind?

  4. As I age I find it all yet more absurd. I have to ask stupid questions to get the work assigned to me done. I cry bullshit to the man who insists there are no stupid questions. In the age of specialists, we have no end to the people who are amazing in one tiny area and completely stupid when it comes to the needs of others. The stupid question is the question so basic that the specialist has forgotten how most of us won't know already what that answer is. It takes courage to ask such a question. It takes a great deal of experience to realize that the clarifying question actually exists and to know when to ask it. Those who lack this courage will be content to pass the confusion on downstream. They will say, "It's not my job."

  5. Hope things get better somehow. I may find myself cut adrift from work sometime, but cannot cope with the thought of losing it. I shall make the most of the meaninglessness while I can.

  6. punch-- most days, i enjoy the journey; thanks for the comment!
pisces-- i like the dark comedy notion; it fits!! as does the absurdity. on the nomad thing, it's a state of mind, but it would be neat name for a place.
christopher--thanks for this wonderful reflection; i can certainly relate to the absurdity pieces and the weird circularity of so much nonsense.
madame-for the most part, things are grand; it's just those patches when the bullshit outweighs everything else...those get me going sometimes! thanks for the visit and the thoughtful words.
