Santana

Woodstock is 40 years old.
As an event, it remains almost absurdly mythic.
As music, it remains unforgettable.
As a semiotic, it remains
as dangerous &
compelling
as ever.

  1. Excelent, commentary about the concert, and the title is great, I used to have every single santa album till the end of the 90ties, not to mention jopin and hendrix excelency. They where dangerous people also, I think.

  2. Mariana-- how nice to meet a sister Santana devotee... what a talent... and his music is as good as ever; perhaps even better with the mellow of age.

  3. Santana opening for The Stones was the last R&R show I ever went to in July of '79 Oakland CA. It could be said that was my concert swan song.

  5. Perhaps I'm reading too much into things but did you notice how the media has been reporting on Manson at the same time - as if to short circuit any positive energy from the era.

  7. Pisces -- I don't think you are reading too much into things at all... it is remarkable how much energy is put into keeping hopeful sentiments out of circulation and how much is put into spreading negativity. Marvelous insight... thanks.

  8. Oye como va...knocked me down in the early 70's. It was not until the 80's that I saw Tito Puente on David Letterman that I knew the author. It was in the 90's I heard Senior Puente and his band play it. Yes sir. Step back, relax, enjoy. Lets' listen to how it goes.
