Sabbatical

here is the feather bed
its seductive imperative
fling myself with wild abandon
i(o)nto its pillowy depths
& awaken
refreshed in six months

presupposes that rest
is the solution
to a problem of meaning
no sleep is enough

my relief is not
mere performance
it is felt
bone deep
knowing
the ground has shifted
I cannot unring the bell
nor would I want to

tell you what... I'll keep
disclosing
earning your respect & regard
the carnal ground of
this trust we share
means everything
to me

  1. I know one professor who took a sabbatical. she Sabbated and Caled and got a lot of sleep done before going back to present her results.

Which basically came out to be "Sleep...is good."

  2. WM... sleep is good...hmmm. The tensions I am trying to get at are more about pace and rhythm and the elusiveness of preferences... but the sleep thing sounds good!
