Tree

roots reach into earth
deeper than any shovel
no matter the strength of the back
wielding it
thirsty
seeking anchorage in an underground
ocean
feeding teeming, ceaseless movement
wild
tenacious
flexible

branches reach into sky
intricate twist, turn  and shiver
upwards, outwards
 awesome
shocking impossible symmetry
flicker(s)
shelter(s)
cradle(s)
deeper than any blue
no matter the heat or  cold of  sun
 greeting their thirst
 seeking fire
as definite and safe
as its necessary distance

trunks hover
with bark the only skin they know
their precious ache
keeping earth and sky
together
and
apart
rings of ages listen and wonder at the threshold
of
in-between

  1. this is a poem for my sister who is dwelling with/in a threshold experience with remarkable honesty and attentive wonder. a gift from a distance, but always from the heart.

  4. Mr.C.-thanks for the kind words; more and more i am aware of being surrounded by beauty that i fear will become dangerously taken for granted... i was thinking about this when this poem began forming itself.
JadedJ-- i, too, am a big fan of trees. i love looking, wandering, climbing, listening and gazing up into their branches. thanks for the visit and the kind sentiment

    together
    and

supoib stuff - I'm a sucker for tree head-trips, enthralled by the idea of seeing things from the viewpoint of the trees (there are so many available metaphors)

Awesome: I really hate that word, so I'd prefer to say that this poem is a giant oak that keeps the earth and sky together.

  8. it is nice descriptive phase, admire your write up. it just like a big in depth meaning on. for a girl like me whom staring the computer 24/7 some times is hard to express it out.

  9. Ryuki-thanks for the visit and the comment. i am not a 24/7 computer gal, but i can appreciate the challenges that go along with learning to express.... i suppose that is a life project as much as a blogging one. cheers
