Aubade

(wo(a)nderings from a night person...)
Dawn sneaks up
on a person like me
who used to drink her way
through the night &
justify to an itinerant conscience
the lines she crossed in the name of surviving
I cut myself
loose & now I sail into golden dawn
on a sea of tranquility
caressed by flickers of early purple
awakening
helpless as water
to the pull of the moon

  1. Beautiful.

A dawn of the inner sun, not just the outer.

  2. Nice correlation between the body and the title. Drink being a former lover replaced by calm heading you towards the dawn.

  3. Like the last line. Very moving imagery.

  5. This is such a hopeful aubade. One of my favorites (by Larkin) is fueled by the mystery of death. Yours reminds me that the dawn (and the hours before it) can be serene and tranquil-- but it is the journey out of darkness that makes them so.
