updates, mundane and otherwise

ON the other side of a ( relatively ) unspectacular surgery, working on being mature and sensible during this week or so of recovery. HAH! In the words of Dr. Phil ( who I cannot believe I am quoting): How's that workin' for ya?!

JUST nearing the end of a wonderful intensive class session in American Sign Language ( ASL). Partner and I are nearing a milestone-finishing up Level 2. Fluency better; appreciation for the language and for DEAF culture..... off the charts.
IN class today ( which we do in a small group in the instructor's home) I brought a large carton of creamy Iced Coffee--mocha flavour. Mm Mm Mm. I'm lactose intolerant, but I threw caution to the winds ( note the mature and sensible reference, above) and drank a good glass full. Even though I'll likely pay big time ( and actually have paid big time already.....no more details needed on that...), I have to say that it's a good feeling for a (recovering) alcoholic like me to regard a milk -based drink as a bit of risky, edgy behaviour.
Talk about a shift in perspective!!

HOPE you all are thriving on the myriad triggers for expressive outpouring in your respective expressive lives.
NAMASTE

  1. I'm enjoying my visiting and reading other bloggers. I continue to be so impressed by the ways you all find and take your inspiration and do such marvelous expressive work with it.
what a grand community of learners and renegades.

  2. American sign language has always fascinated me. I once worked at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL, where the Florida School for The Deaf and Blind is located. Flagler has a nationally recognized program for deaf and blind educators and it was cool to sit in on their classes. Of course, I never learned anything as it was all Greek to me but I was able to get them a few nice Smartboards for use in class.

  3. Milk as risky and edgy.
    This is a paradigm shift.

That's the life, a woman on your knee, one hand holding a royal flush and the other a full glass of milk.
Boy Howdy, 'hit don't get no better than that.
I truly admire your willingness to learn.

  4. Mr.C-- i've heard of Flagler..... great things. in one of my lives, i am involved in similar kids of practitioner preparation. and, let me tell you, providing smart boards is as good as learning greek ( or sign) in terms of overall difference made. good for you. thanks for the visit.
Punch-- nice riff there, buddy!! not to be indelicate, but ask my partner about the risks of entering the bathroom after a lactose intolerant episode. whoa!!! of course, it's relative. ahem.
i suppose the learning thing is a curse.... not that y'all would know anything about that... i must say, most of the bloggers i follow seem to be quite committed to life long learning.
    thanks for the visit.

  6. I feel your pain - and other discomforts - re: the milk thing. Luckily the coffee guy at market can make his marvelous Mexican frappe with soymilk!

It's always good to read you!

i wish i could develop a taste for soy milk in coffee/tea. I like it reasonably well in my protein shakes and smoothies, but i cannot warm up to it in coffee or tea. hmmm. weird
thanks for the kind words. hope all is well with you.
